Description
This is a small stone upright sundial built in 1899. It features a triple stepped circular base and a square pedestal that has a moulded base and cornice. The pedestal is topped with a four-sided stone sundial that has an obelisk head. The sides of the pedestal are panelled and include carved work with raised lettering. The eastern face is dated 1899 and displays a heraldic shield along with the initials J.S.D. The northern cartouche features the inscription: "Do today's work today." The western side also has a heraldic shield with the initials M.L.D., while the southern cartouche bears the inscription: "The night cometh when no man can work." The sundial has three faces, with the western side inscribed: "Watch and pray for ye know neither the day nor the hour."
