Description

The Dairy is a Grade II* listed building from the early to mid-18th century, originally built with rubble that was formerly whitewashed. It was repaired in 1822, likely at the time when the current windows were installed. The building features a stone-tiled roof and an early 19th-century timber cornice with consoles, along with slated barges. A dressed stone bellcot, which has been rebuilt, is located to the left and has a rounded head containing a bell dated 1743. There is also a rubble stack to the left of the rear wing.

The front of the building is two stories high with four upper windows that rise to the eaves, featuring low wide 6-pane casements. On the ground floor, there are two 12-pane hornless sash windows with cambered stone voussoired heads and stone sills. To the right, there is a rendered 20th-century lean-to. The entrance is at the right end and has a stone voussoired head, although it is obscured by a modern porch.

At the rear, there is a projecting two-story wing with a dairy outshut that abuts to the left. The outshut has a 6-pane casement window with a cambered stone voussoired head. The wide ground floor window in the wing features a timber 6-light leaded transom and mullion, which is almost certainly from the early to mid-18th century, and has a flat stone voussoired head. Above this, there is a 20th-century window in the rendered gable, with remnants of dove-ledges projecting above it. The return elevation of the wing has a two-light 12-pane casement window with a head similar to the others.

Inside, there are early 19th-century panelled window shutters and six-panel doors on the ground floor, featuring raised and fielded panelling.
