Description
The gates and railings to the gardens at the Town Hall were constructed around 1895-1896 and are made of painted cast iron. They feature two pairs of tall panelled gate piers that have mid-height roundel panels, moulded bases and caps, and globe finials on circular stands. The globes are gadrooned on their lower halves, ringed, and topped with pointed finials. The double iron gates are adorned with fleur-de-lys spearheads, with more ornate designs on the main bars compared to the dog bars. Between the gateways, and on each side, there are lengths of matching railings set on stone coping. The stanchions between each section of railings are stamped with "Raybould & Co, Workington." The railings curve around the northeast and southeast corners and end at a single cast iron pier.
