Description
The Boer War Memorial, located in the gardens at the Hall, is a bronze statue from 1905 depicting a rifleman who is bareheaded with a pith helmet at his feet. The sculptor is F Doyle Jones from Newcastle. The statue is mounted on a tall grey granite pedestal that tapers upwards; three sides of the pedestal are rough-faced, while the front is polished and features an inscription dedicated to the men of Llanelly who died in the South African War. This pedestal is set on a further grey granite block that includes an inscription noting the unveiling by Field Marshal Earl Roberts on 26 August 1905. The entire structure rests on a rock-faced Pennant stone block, which is elevated on two steps.
