Description

Lyric Buildings, which includes the facade to Queen Street, is an office building with shops, built in the Moderne style. It is four stories tall and has six bays, with the two bays on the right extending higher to form a tower. The exterior is finished in painted stucco, and the roofs are hidden behind parapets. The upper floors are divided by vertical strips between the bays, featuring three triangular section fins. There is a sill band on the second floor that projects forward over the fins, and a broader band above the shopfronts that steps down below the first floor window on the right.

All upper windows are 16-pane horned sashes. On the ground floor to the right, there are two doorways, with the left one being a taller entry to the upstairs offices, which is recessed and accessed by steps. To the right of this are two shopfronts; the left one is a smaller 20th-century shopfront with a panel of black polished marble above, where the remains of the lettering "LYRIC" are just visible. The larger shopfront on the right may have been altered in the late 20th century and is wide and deep, featuring a central recess for the entrance supported by a column at the street line. The shopfront has plate glass panes on the left and right, with larger panes angled in towards the door. Above the shop windows and the central recess is top glazing with patterned metal-strip glazing, and there is a large fascia board above. Marks on the floor of the recess indicate where a free-standing display cabinet was located.

The facade on Queen Street is similar, also four stories tall and five bays wide, with vertical fins on the upper floors. However, the windows here are 20th-century metal casements with top lights, featuring large square three-light windows in the center three bays and narrower two-light windows in the outer bays. The ground floor has been altered in the late 20th century, now featuring five plain arched large windows and an entry to the left under a late 20th-century canopy.

Inside, both entrances lead to staircases that provide access to the offices, which have plain modernist details on the stairs.
