Description

The farm buildings lie to the west of Temple Druid. They form a farmyard situated behind a row of three cottages, raised on a stone-vaulted terrace above the mansion site. The buildings are constructed of coursed slaty rubble stone. The west side of the farmcourt incorporates the rear of Nos. 1-3 Temple Druid Cottages, alongside a single-storey range extending north and south, both ranges altered circa 1900. The east side of the farmyard is open between the gable ends, supported by high rubble-faced walls containing tall vaulted chambers below the farmyard ranges. A stone revetment runs between the walls, incorporating a walkway above and low openings into small, low-vaulted spaces beneath the farmyard itself. Since the building was originally listed, the right end including the east gable of the north range has collapsed, causing damage to part of the north range roof. The roof is covered with small, local grey slates, while the south range has a corrugated asbestos sheet roof.

The east side previously had end bays that rose to include gable ends of the farmyard ranges, but a wall has collapsed, exposing the vault within and the interior of the building above. Both ends featured tall arched openings with stone voussoirs leading into high, barrel-vaulted chambers – one with a side fireplace, the other with some blocked openings. The left gable has a damaged segmental-arched window with stone voussoirs, situated at the end of the south farmyard range; this window has been partly replaced by one with a flat brick head intruding into the original arch. A plain revetment wall has a damaged, L-shaped flight of 10 steps leading to the walkway above. This walkway has five openings: the left and right are narrow with stone voussoirs to semi-circular arched heads; the three central openings consist of two with stone voussoirs to slightly cambered heads, and a similar central opening with a thin pine lintel. The left opening leads to a low, narrow barrel-vaulted chamber extending back into the bank, the three central openings lead into low, cambered chambers, and the right opening opens onto a flight of 17 steps up to courtyard level.

The small courtyard is now overgrown. Low, gabled ranges extend north and south. The south range originally had three arched openings with stone voussoirs; the right-hand opening is the only one retaining its voussoirs, while the others were robbed and blocked in the 20th century. The north range contains two chambers, but its east end has collapsed. The roof structure comprises 19th-century pine collar trusses. Most of the openings have been altered; the left window has an early 20th-century red brick head and concrete sill, followed by a door with a similar red brick head, then a recessed blank panel that may be original. A fourth window was lost in the collapse.
