Description

The Old Rectory at Manordeifi dates to approximately 1840-1850 and is a former rectory constructed of colourwashed coursed rubble stone, featuring hipped roofs and 20th-century black brick stacks. The building is roughly square in plan and of Regency style, displaying deep flat-boarded eaves. The north front has three windows, while the east front, the main entrance front, also has three windows. A raised plinth and bands mark the exterior, with an overlight above the central entrance. The ground floor features hornless tripartite 4-12-4-pane sash windows on either side of the door, while the upper sash of the central window sits above the half-glazed front door. Above, there are nine-pane sashes. The east side lacks windows save for a long arched stair light of 1847, placed in the angle of a rear wing to the southeast. Two brick axial stacks stand behind the main ridge, and a single stack is on the southwest gable. The 1847 southeast rear wing is hipped at its northeast angle, with a 12-pane sash on each floor to the right. A lean-to extension features a first-floor 6-pane sash and a 12-pane sash, as well as a ground-floor 12-pane sash and a 6-pane window and door. The lean-to's north end is blocked, while it has first-floor windows at each end and one ground floor window to the left of the lean-to. A brick ridge stack is present. The rear of the main range likely includes a later broad south gable with a door situated in the angle of the southeast wing and two sashes above. The rear yard is enclosed by lean-to buildings on the south and west sides, and a verandah supported by 20th-century timber posts runs along the east side of the rear wing, displaying two 12-pane sashes on the first floor.

As shown on the 1847 plan, the original entrance passage has been incorporated into the northeast drawing room, which features an elliptical arched recess on the south side, a six-panel door to the right, and an architraved recess to the left. A 20th-century fireplace is present. A small room is located to the northwest. A spine passage leads to a stick baluster dog-leg staircase, with a ramped rail which was likely moved from the south wall in 1847. The southwest dining room was remodelled in 1847 from what was formerly the kitchen.
