Description

The churchyard at Manordeifi Old Church is irregularly shaped and steeply rises to the south. It features a rubble stone and slate stile at the western end. Within the churchyard, there are several iron-railed enclosures surrounding family burial plots, mostly characterized by spearhead rails and plinths made of Cilgerran stone.

One enclosure is attached to the west porch and belongs to the Lewis family of Clynfyw, featuring a cut Cilgerran stone plinth, iron railings, and urn stanchions, with the first memorial dating back to 1789. Another enclosure is located at the northwest angle of the nave, dedicated to Rev. J Blackwell (who died in 1840), containing a marble cross memorial erected in 1913, along with a Cilgerran stone plinth, spearhead rails, and urn stanchions.

To the north of the nave, there is a slate-paved enclosure with a low Cilgerran stone plinth, iron rails with dog-bars, scrolled spears, and urn stanchions. This enclosure has a gate with a curved scrolled overthrow and features an early 19th-century wall plaque commemorating Anna Thomas of Gellideg (who died in 1759).

Attached to the northwest of the chancel, there are iron rails and a wrought iron overthrow at the eastern entry, along with squat urn stanchions. This area includes a wall memorial for John Williams of Blaenheiny (who died in 1781) and Thomas Williams of Plasyberllan (who died in 1835).

East of the chancel, a tall iron-railed enclosure with large urn stanchions and an ornate wrought iron scrolled overthrow contains a cross memorial for John Colby of Ffynone (who died in 1874).

To the north of the chancel, another iron-railed enclosure with urn stanchions features a fine wrought iron overthrow and a wall memorial for the Saunders family of Pentre (1750-1806). An additional wrought iron overthrow connects this enclosure to the next one.

On a slope, there is an iron-railed enclosure with a slab memorial for David Davies of Pentre (who died in 1829) and the Saunders-Davies family, with urns on the stanchions designed to align with the slope.

At the southern slope of the churchyard, an iron-railed enclosure has bulbous cast-iron gateposts and memorializes John Williams of Plasyberllan (who died in 1866).

Finally, east of the chancel, there is a large stone arch-headed memorial with voussoirs framing a recess that holds an attached plaque for Lieutenant John Griffith of Vaynor (who died in 1797).
