Description

Dyffryn House is a two-storey and one-and-a-half storey house built in an L-plan layout, featuring roughcast walls and imitation slate roofs that were formerly cemented. The main range dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and is double-fronted with a central doorway. The roof was cemented slate in 1978, and there are stone stacks flanking the entrance. The exterior has roughcast cladding with stuccoed window surrounds and twelve-pane sash windows, although the glazing bars are partly missing in the left-hand first-floor window. The entrance features a panelled door set in an early 20th-century gabled porch with a tiled ridge.

To the right of the main range is a lower one-storey and attic section, which is the oldest part of the building. It has a large stone stack at the right end, a ground floor twelve-pane sash window, and a 20th-century metal-glazed flat dormer above, adjacent to the taller main range. This section includes a slightly higher crosswing that projects forward to the end gable, featuring a corbelled chimney breast and a very small 20th-century chimney. There is also a 20th-century glazed door and an eaves-breaking flat window above.

At the rear of the main range, there is an outshut with two windows above and a door below, next to a broad 19th-century rear wing with a half-hipped gable that covers part of the lower range. A tiny service court is located on the other side of the rear wing, accessible by steps down from the bank.

Inside, the lower wing to the right of the main range features a large fireplace with a bressumer and a double ceiling supported by two 16th-century and 17th-century stopped and chamfered beams, with the joists hidden from view.
