Description

Church Hill House is a house dating from the earlier 20th century. It is constructed with roughcast render, set beneath a gabled roof covered in slate and featuring a roughcast stack at the apex. The house is two storeys high, with three windows across the front elevation, and it is raised above a basement level. The windows are twelve-pane sashes with slate sills, the lower windows having a curved head. A centre door, dating from the earlier 20th century, is set within a much eroded stuccoed porch supported by two columns and originally featuring a cornice. Steps lead up to the front door. The west end of the house has no windows, whereas the east end has mostly blank windows, with two to the upper floor and one twelve-pane sash, and two to the ground floor (left and centre). A raised plinth is present, with a window on each side of a blank window. The rear elevation features a large pointed stairwell window with small panes, along with other blank windows, and a twelve-pane sash to the first floor and to the ground floor. A raised plinth is also present at the rear, with a small basement light to the left and a board door centrally positioned. A small attached outbuilding is located to the right, complete with a stone end stack, a board door, and a twelve-pane sash with a smaller nine-pane light above, both small and separated by a timber lintel.

Inside, the house features a central passage hall with six-panel doors on each side and a staircase at the end. The dog-leg staircase has turned newels and a six-panel door to the cellar is located near the foot of the stairs. The front rooms are small and square, with renewed fireplaces on the north walls. The kitchen, positioned in the rear north-east corner, is characterised by slate slabs and hooks in the ceiling.
