Description
The North East Dockyard Tower is a 19th-century structure built from limestone ashlar, featuring a basement, a main storey, and a top gun-platform. It has a trefoil plan with a flat front facing landward, curved ends, and a curved seaward side. The walls are battered and topped with a heavy bull-nose moulding beneath a high coped parapet. On the south side, there is a central parabolic arched recess that breaks the cornice, adorned with rusticated voussoirs. The parapet above includes six small musketry loops. Within the arch, there is a granite rusticated doorway inscribed with 'VR 1851', flanked by two loops on each side and an iron hoist to the left. Above the doorway, there is one window featuring a keystone. To the left and right of the arch, there is a single loop, followed by curved ends that each contain three camber-headed, ashlar framed windows with smaller square openings above. The seaward side has not been inspected.
