Description

This is a single limekiln built against the north side of a small quarry face, with working openings on the east and west sides. It has an approximately semi-circular shape and features a small low buttress on the north side. The kiln is brick-lined and partially collapsed on the east side, with an internal diameter of about 3 meters. This kiln is notable as it is one of the two shown on the Tithe Map of 1841 and represents an intact example of a limekiln from the early period of the important lime-burning industry at the Black Rock quarries. It also has group value with the other kilns located in what is now known as Kiln Park.
