Description
No 1 Marsh Road Cottages, also known as Casa Vecchia, is a cottage that is part of a row of four. Originally, all cottages were built with painted roughcast rubble stone and feature a slate roof with grey limestone stacks at the ends. This single-storey, double-fronted cottage has a pointed window on each side of a pointed door. The door and window heads are made of red brick, although this is only visible on No 1. The cottage has tooled grey limestone raised quoins, impost blocks, and keystones around the openings, which have been painted over except on No 1. The windows are casements with fixed Gothic intersecting glazing bars at the pointed heads, and there is a boarded door. The front gardens are enclosed by rubble stone walls with stepped rough stone copings. At the rear, there is an outshut. No 1 has had its roughcast replaced with painted render, exposing the brick arch heads, and features 20th-century glazing and a door, including replacement fanlights for the windows.
