Description

Corn Mill House is a late 18th century or early 19th century structure that forms part of a group including a corn mill and a mid to late 19th century cart shed. There is documentary evidence of mills operating in this location since around 1600. By 1834, the tenant was also farming 66 acres, and the mill continued operations until approximately 1910. The house has been derelict since around 1980.

The house features a front elevation with three windows, is three storeys high with a basement, and has end chimneys. The rear wing has two windows and an end chimney. Access to the basement is through a small sunken yard located to the west of the rear wing. There are lean-to outbuildings at the north gable. The walls are constructed from local rubble limestone and are rendered, with slated roofs. The windows are sash style with six-pane sashes throughout, except in the basement, and have segmental brick window heads. A small front garden is enclosed by a low wall and gate. The basement includes a cottage-type range in the kitchen and in the eastern front room.

At the rear of the back extension, there is a lean-to building that contains a large open-top water boiler with a fireplace beside it, adjacent to a very large oven within the back extension of the house.

Corn Mill House is listed as part of a fine group with the mill and retains some of its original millwork.
