Description

Penty Park is a substantial early 18th century country house that was altered around 1870 but still retains important 18th century interiors.

In 2004, the interiors of the front range were stripped due to dry rot. The southern front rooms exhibited a 19th century character. The dining room, which has two windows on the front (one in the center and one to the left), features a moulded 19th century cornice, a rose, and a marble fireplace. There is a small room to the right. The long southeast drawing room, which has a canted bay at the south end, and the corresponding northeast library both display later 19th century characteristics. The southeast room includes a lattice plaster ceiling and plaster wall panels, while the northeast room features timber ribs in the coved ceiling and a marble fireplace.

The northern hall, located to the east of the staircase, has later 19th century boarded panelling. The staircase itself retains earlier 18th century fielded-panelled dado, square newels, ramped rails, and turned balusters. The study to the west of the staircase has preserved earlier 18th century fielded panelling, which was still in place in 2004. On the south wall, there is a fielded-panelled six-panel door with a broad fanlight and keystone, flanked by fluted pilasters (a design that is repeated on the hall side). The study also features a moulded cornice and bolection-moulded large panel over the fireplace, with a cupboard to the side. Upstairs, the main bedroom includes a painted overmantel depicting an ideal landscape.
