Description

The Llewellin Monument at Scollock West Farm is a Grade II listed memorial made of white Carrara marble. It features a long, massive plinth with a central pedestal memorial topped by a draped urn, flanked by life-size figures of John and Martha Llewellin. The base includes a raised plinth with a forward break at the front and back, rounded ends adorned with a heavy carved festoon, and an inscription on the front that reads: 'As ye would that men should do to you/ Do ye also to the likewise/ Love God and keep his Commandments/ That you may prosper in this life/ And have no fear of death'.

The centerpiece consists of a tall pedestal with arch-headed plaques on each side, featuring inscriptions for Martha Llewellin (1840-1906) and John Llewellin (1846-1918). The inscriptions highlight their achievements, stating, 'By the blessing of God on their joint industry and thrift they bought this farm and hand it down without encumbrance to their heirs' and 'Endeavour to pull together as they did. Union is strength'. The monument is topped with a deep full cornice that has a carved flower spray in the frieze, a moulded cornice, and four scroll pediments on each side of a square plinth supporting the tall draped urn with a carved floral wreath.

John Llewellin is depicted on the left, bareheaded and dressed in a jacket, waistcoat, breeches, gaiters, and boots, with one hand resting on a pedestal. Martha Llewellin stands on the right, also bareheaded with her hair styled in a coiffe. She wears a full-bottomed dress with scalloped hems at half-length, waist, and lapels, along with a high-neck shirt featuring a clasp, and holds a necklace with a pendant in her hand.
