Description
The Emporium is a 19th-century, two-storey shop with a colourwashed roughcast exterior built on a rubble base. It features a steeply pitched slate roof with a continuous outshot at the rear. The eaves are plain, and there is a truncated brick stack on the right side and a tall brick stack on the outshot.
On the first floor, there is a Victorian sash window, while the ground floor has a 10-pane transomed shop window from the 20th century. This window is flanked by reeded pilasters and has rectangular fascia ends supported by consoles. To the left of the shop window, there is a modern doorway that leads to a large rectangular nameboard, which also provides access to the adjoining Hill House.
In front of the building, there are good 19th-century iron railings surrounding the forecourt, with a contemporary gateway located to the right. The building has a two-window elevation facing Northfield Road, featuring a Victorian oriel window on the first floor to the right. This oriel window is tripartite and supported by a moulded bracket with a dentil cornice. To the left, there is a sash window that mirrors the style of the ground floor, with plain reveals and slate sills.
