Description
The Gower and Logan Memorial is a late 19th-century structure located in a churchyard, made of grey granite. It features a raised pedestal with a moulded cap, measuring approximately 3 meters in length, on which stands a slim granite cross. The cross has a pedestal, an octagonal shaft, a cap, and a foliated head. Extending from each side of the pedestal are low broad granite platforms with moulded plinths and three ridge-backed, hipped-ended granite slabs. Each slab has an inscription on the south sloping side and an incised encircled star on the end slope. The pedestal is adorned with an incised trefoil on each end.
The inscriptions on the memorial commemorate Hart Logan (who died in 1873), Sir William Logan (who died in 1871), and Abel Lewes Gower of Castle Malgwyn (who died in 1849) on the west side. On the east side, the first slab is uninscribed, followed by Louisa Stewart of Rhosygilwen (who died in 1877) and Elizabeth Gower, nee Logan (who died in 1876). Additionally, there is an added plaque from 1975 on the pedestal end, commemorating Sir William Logan's contributions to the Geological Survey of Canada from 1847 to 1869.
Surrounding the memorial is a low outer granite plinth with ornate low iron rails.
