Description

3 Westgate Hill is a terraced house built with painted stucco and a slate roof that extends from No 2 on the left, featuring a small stuccoed stack at the right end. The house has three storeys and a cellar, with two bays that include a raised plinth and raised angle pilasters. There are two sill courses that project forward over the pilasters, along with moulded caps on the pilasters and a moulded course beneath the frieze. The eaves have been renewed with timber and small brackets.

The house features four-pane sash windows and a doorway in the right bay, which has a 19th-century timber doorcase with panelled pilasters and an entablature topped with a modillion cornice (the cornice was broken off in 2004). The reveals are panelled, and the six-panel door has the top four panels raised and fielded, with a plain overlight above. The sashes in the right bay are narrower than those in the left.

At the rear, there is a lower narrow wing that has two storeys and an attic. This wing formerly had a gabled dormer with a horizontally sliding casement but was altered in the late 20th century. It now features a large arched window in the gable end attic, two first-floor sash windows, and ground-floor glazed doors.

The interior was not inspected in 1981 or 2004, but it is said to contain an early vaulted chamber that was used as a kitchen, located about 30 feet from the street front. The front room is reported to have had 18th-century cupboards with fielded panels on the doors, which have rounded tops, and there are 19th-century stairs.
