Description

The Four Mediaeval House at Upper Lamphey Park Farm is a Grade II* listed building constructed from rubble limestone, with some areas of external render and a corrugated iron roof. This two-storey structure has a rectangular plan measuring approximately 5 meters north-south by 4.5 meters east-west, and features a small square stair tower at the southwest corner. The west elevation includes a 19th-century door set beneath a flat brick arch, while the north elevation displays a projecting chimney stack and a corbel at the eaves.

Inside, the north wall has a gabled design with a blocked doorway to the left of the ground floor, which is topped by a wooden lintel, and a blocked reveal of a slot window to the right. On the first floor, there is another blocked doorway, possibly the original entrance, next to a fireplace that features quarter round and filleted corbels along with a chamfered stone lintel. Adjacent to this fireplace is a rectangular recess. The west wall contains the 19th-century doorway to the right and a blocked doorway in the southwest corner that leads to the remnants of a stone spiral staircase, which connects to the first floor via a partly blocked doorway above. A corbel supports the first floor, and there is a blocked window on the first floor to the right.

The south wall on the ground floor has a fireplace with a now-blocked segmental stone arch and a small slot window with a splayed reveal to the left. This wall is cut back to accommodate the staircase doorway, with a corbel above to support the floor. There may be a blocked doorway on the first floor, although it could be a 19th-century addition to the adjacent barn. The interior also features modern elements such as a feeding trough, and a corbel supports the central roof truss at the midpoint of the wall top. The floor is currently made of concrete, and the roof trusses appear to be pegged, likely dating from the 19th century.
