Description
This house, located at 3 Main Street, is constructed from stone rubble with a front elevation of rusticated stucco and features a hipped roof covered in imitation slates, along with a stuccoed stack on the right. It is a three-storey, double-fronted building with a formal appearance, showcasing two 12-pane sash windows on each floor, with larger windows flanking an arch-headed doorway that is slightly off-center to the left. There are shallow cellar lights beneath each ground floor window. The entrance features an eight-panelled double door with a plain fanlight above it. All the windows are adorned with rusticated voussoirs and keystones. The doorcase is particularly fine, featuring an open pediment supported by three-quarter Ionic columns with unusual scroll volutes, and the reveals are panelled.
The left end wall has been altered with 20th-century dry-dash cladding and includes a long stair light with 20th-century glazing. Inside, the entrance passage leads to a stair hall positioned to the left. The dogleg stair is fitted with stick balusters. The front left room has a six-panel door and a 19th-century fireplace. The dining room features an elliptical-arched sideboard recess and a similar arch leading to the hall, along with a 19th-century fireplace and a grate dating from around 1900. The rear room also includes a reeded elliptical arch and a 19th-century fireplace. A six-panel door with rebated corners leads to raised panels.
