Description

The summerhouse located at the rear of Nos 5-9 Spring Gardens is a picturesque grotto-style structure made of rubble stone, set into a man-made mound within a planted woodland. The eastern front features a Gothic pointed arched opening, flanked by quadrant walls that curve outward and slope downwards. The arch is stepped in, showcasing alternate tufa and projecting voussoirs, although the outer orders of the arch have partly collapsed at the top. Inside, the arch leads to a stone-vaulted recess with a semicircular back wall.
