Description

Trehowel is an 18th century farmhouse with later additions, constructed from rubble stone, part slate-hung, and all colourwashed, featuring grouted slate roofs. The building has a two-storey irregular layout, forming an L-shape with a southwest wing. The main section has a south-facing front range from the late 18th century, which includes a stone stack at the eastern end, a colourwashed slate-hung facade with nogged brick eaves, and a two-window arrangement. There is a sash window with marginal glazing bars on each floor to the right, while the left side has a door located in a hipped-roofed angle porch and a small 8-pane sash window above. The rear does not have an outshut and features a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left and another on the first floor to the right.

The south range extends southward and includes two large stone stacks, one on the ridge and a larger one at the southern end, along with a smaller stone stack on the northern gable end, aligned with the rear of the front range. There is a mounting block on the south end wall. The eastern front has four windows on the ground floor, including a 12-pane sash window to the right with a dripstone above, a small 8-pane sash window above it, and three 20th-century metal-framed windows to the left, with one window above, positioned low under the eaves. The low upper floor and outshut at the rear suggest that this part of the building is older than the south-facing range.

On the western side, there is an outshut at the northern end and a projecting wing in the center, which is two-storey with a western end stack, a slate roof, and two 20th-century ground floor windows facing north. There is also an upper floor window in the western gable end and a south side lean-to made of painted brick. This wing does not appear on the 1845 Tithe Map. Beyond this is a further two-window western front with two 12-pane sashes below and a 20th-century metal window above.

The interior has not been inspected.
