Description

Borough House is a commercial premises and house, constructed with roughcast and featuring a hipped close-eaved slate roof. The street-facing elevation has three storeys and two bays, with the upper floors finished in roughcast and the ground floor in stucco. It includes large sash windows, with nine panes on the second floor and twelve panes on the first floor, situated above a late 19th-century shopfront that has plain pilasters on either side, a fascia with console brackets, and a cornice. The shopfront has recessed paired glazed doors with an overlight, flanked by three-pane shop windows, with the inner panes canted inward.

The left side wall, which faces the forecourt of Lock House, is windowless and partly slate-hung. The right side elevation, which faces Sergeants Lane, features a cellar opening, a door, and a long square-headed stair light. This is followed by a three-storey section of the house, which has nine-pane and blank windows on the second floor, twelve-pane and blank windows on the first floor, and a twelve-pane front door that is accessed by four steps, along with a window over the cellar door on the ground floor. To the extreme right, there is a ground floor sash window with coloured glass margins. The hipped end wall has a nine-pane upper window, a cross window on the first floor, and a lean-to structure on the ground floor.

The ground floor has been altered for use as a shop, with a store-room located on the first floor.
