Description

The cowhouse and stable range at Court, built from rubble stone with grouted slate roofs, dates from the 19th century. The structure runs from west to east and features a single-storey cow-byre on the left and a lofted stable on the right. The front wall of the cow-byre has been rebuilt around 1900 on the left side, showing a broken joint, while the rest of the front wall and the left gable end display older stonework. It has five doors and several vent loops, with the doors originally featuring brick heads; the second and third doors have been rebuilt with brick surrounds. The left end of the cow-byre has external steps leading to a loft door with a timber lintel.

The stable range has a slate-hung upper floor and two ground floor doors with overlights, each flanked by windows on either side. There are steep stone steps leading up to a loft door in the east end wall. The roof is partly collapsed as of 2001. The upper floor contains three loft windows, two above the left stable and one larger window above the door of the right stable. The ground floor has two stable doors, each situated between two windows. The left stable features brick heads above its openings, while the right stable has its heads concealed by a lower line of slate hanging. There are outside steps at the right end leading to a loft door with a brick head. The rear of the building has four loft windows.

The stables have later 19th-century joisted floors, while the cow shed has collar trusses but lacks a loft, although there is a loft door at the west end.
