Description

Paragon Court consists of two houses that have been converted into flats. The exterior is finished in painted stucco and features a roof behind a panelled parapet with stucco end stacks. The building stands four storeys tall with a basement and has a four-window range. Each side has three-storey canted bay windows, and there are two doors at the centre, with an iron balcony spanning between the bays on the first floor. The parapet is decorated with nine panels that have inset borders with rebated angles.

On the top floor, there are four plain four-pane sash windows in simple stucco surrounds, and two similar windows are located at the centre of the second floor. The first floor features two large French windows with top lights set in raised surrounds with dentilled cornices, which open onto the balcony. The ground floor has two similar French windows made of plastic, but these lack cornices. The canted bay windows are adorned with moulded timber modillion cornices on each floor and have 2-4-2-pane glazing. The iron railing of the balcony has a simple Gothic pattern, similar to those found on houses along The Esplanade, and the balcony is supported by ornate cast iron brackets.

The front doors are accessed by steps that have iron railings with simple split-bar spearheads, leading across the basement area where there are doors below and six-pane windows on either side of the doors. The right end wall features a four-storey canted bay window, which is depicted in mid-19th century engravings, while the left end is slate-hung. The rear of the building has a large late 20th-century stair addition that provides access to the flats. The interiors have been altered during the conversion to flats.
