Description
The Armstrong Arms is a 17th-century building featuring an elongated two-window front range that faces east. It is set back from the street and is not quite parallel to it. There is a two-room wing at the side and rear of the south room, which has a lower floor level. The building is constructed with thick rubble masonry walls that are rendered and painted grey. It has a hipped slated roof with a low pitch and very deep eaves overhang of about 75 cm, along with tile ridges and limestone chimney stacks that have large cornices.
At the front, there is a porch, and to the south, there is a lean-to addition and a log-store. A later northwest wing has been added, using similar materials and maintaining the same eaves height.
Inside, there is an open chimney with a bread oven located in the cross-wall of the rear wing. The floor over the front rooms is made of roughly converted elm joists.
