Description
The Bell Tower is a Grade II listed structure featuring a slimline concrete chimney shaft that rises from the piazza concourse. It is taller than both the Great Hall and the Hugh Owen Library, making it visible from much of the Penglais Campus. The inner cuboid shaft is open to the west and is clad in dark aggregate panels. The top of the shaft is angled and cut off, sloping from east to west. Surrounding this are lighter gravel aggregate panels that match those of the nearby buildings, with open seams at the northeast and southeast corners. This lighter sheathing stops a few meters short of the top and has an opposed angled cut off on the north and south sides, sloping from west down to east. There are narrow vertical openings on these two sides, which are linked by a single pale panel above that holds an iron bell suspended from it. At the base of the chimney, there are wooden benches that were added later.
