Description

This is a chapel dating from 1858, built for the Calvinistic Methodists, with a chapel house attached to its left. The chapel is roughcast with a slate roof. The front gable has two tall, triangular-headed windows with small panes, and a central door, all with diagonally-intersected bars in their heads. A framed boarded double door serves the entrance. A triangular-headed plaque above the door reads "Capel Mynach Trefnyddion Calfinaidd Adeiladwyd yn y flwyddyn 1858." The sides of the chapel have two further windows of similar design, with the left side facing the road and incorporating the attached chapel house. The chapel house is set back and is a two-storey, two-window range with 12-pane sash windows and an overlighted door. The upper windows and door were replaced in the 20th century. A red brick stack is located at the left end of the chapel house.

Inside, the chapel has a simple interior with painted, grained, numbered box pews slightly raked towards the rear, with ramped top rails. Originally, there were three blocks of pews, but those at the front of the right side were removed, as were the blocks to the right of the set fawr (the area from which services are led). Two inward-facing blocks remain, on either side of the set fawr. The pews have plain panelled backs, and moulded surrounds to the door panels. Similar panelling is found at the set fawr enclosure, which projects and has doors set at canted angles. The platform has turned balusters, and a canted projecting front to the pulpit features contrasted painted graining. Steps lead to the platform, with the top balusters hinged as a gate. A painted arch is present behind the platform, similar to that at Siloa Independent Chapel, Cwmerfyn. A central, rear lobby provides access via doors on either side, and has a small-paned window with coloured glass margins at the front. The plaster ceiling has a moulded cornice and four plain roundels.
