Description
The Morgan Enclosure at the Church of St. Ffraed is a railed enclosure measuring approximately 3 meters by 5 meters. It features ornate Gothic cast iron railings with urn stanchions and poppy-head finials, standing about 1.4 meters high, and has slate coping on a rubble stone base. Inside, there are five slate memorials set into the floor at the rear, dedicated to the children of Lewis and Mary Morgan of Pantanamlwg. From the left, the memorials commemorate Catherine (who died in 1828 at 10 months old), Eleanor (who died in 1851 at 15), Elizabeth (who died in 1854 at 11), Jane (who died in 1841 at 22), John (who died in 1830 at 22), and Daniel (who died in 1832 at 20). There are also white marble memorials on the left and right. The left memorial is in the form of a pedestal and urn (by J.D. Lloyd) dedicated to David Morgan of Alltlwyd Farm (1814-1882) and his wife Elizabeth (1818-1908). The right memorial is a cross on a pedestal set on a grey marble base, honoring Richard Bowland (who died in 1869 at 20) and Lewis Richard (who died in 1869 at 25), both sons of David and Elizabeth Morgan.
