Description
Goetre Uchaf is a vernacular house that showcases the late continuation of a local building tradition. This rectangular, single-storey building with an attic is constructed from rubble and is whitewashed on the front. It has a relatively flat-pitched slate roof and a rubble chimney stack on the left side. The house features modern two-pane sash windows that are recessed and have timber lintels, flanking a recessed boarded door, which also has a timber lintel. The right end wall is rendered and includes a low boarded extension. There is a small attic window on the right gable.
Inside, the three-bay layout is open to the roof and includes a crogloft at the right end. The interior features red pine timbers, with purlins located outside the principal rafters, dowelled tie beams, and later common rafters. A large lath and plaster hooded fireplace projects into the room, supported by a timber beam below, with an additional beam for hanging meat. This fireplace is a regional characteristic and is a relatively rare and well-preserved example.
