Description
Capel Bethel, including the vestry to the left, is a chapel and vestry built in line. The chapel is constructed of rubble stone with unpainted render on the front, featuring a slate roof and late 19th-century bargeboards. The facade is plain with two long arched windows and two outer doors. The windows are 18-pane with Gothick intersecting glazing bars in the heads, and the doors have matching fanlights. The right end wall and rear wall are also made of rubble stone, with the rear wall containing three 12-pane sash windows.
The vestry to the left is a lower, single-storey structure with a short facade made of rubble stone, accented by yellow brick rusticated surrounds. It has a tall arched centre door flanked by two arched windows. The door is a four-panel design with a plate glass fanlight above it. The rear of the vestry features two 4-pane sash windows.
Inside, the chapel does not have galleries. The walls are plastered, and there are later 19th-century pine pews arranged in three blocks, each with shaped bench ends and roll-moulded tops on the doors. There are lobbies in each corner, with coloured and etched glass in the side windows facing the pulpit. The pulpit is located in the centre of the entrance wall and is surrounded by a three-sided set fawr, all dating from the late 19th century. The set fawr has curved angles, squat turned balusters, and heavy turned newels topped with acorn finials. The pulpit features a large pitch-pine canted front with three carved arched panels depicting floral motifs, along with a book-rest on carved brackets. Curved short balustrades with turned newels matching the set fawr lead to the platform on each side and the steps up to the pulpit. The pulpit-back is arch-headed timber, and the ceiling is plain plaster with a moulded central rose and two plain roundels. The vestry has a board ceiling, a board dado, and a fireplace.
