Description
David Evans Jeweller, formerly known as the Miners Arms, is a two-storey building with an attic and a three-window front made of scribed roughcast, topped with a slate roof and modern dormers. The first floor features splayed sash glazed oriels at both ends, while the ground floor has separate shop fronts. The most notable aspect of this building is the exceptional Art Nouveau shop front at No 39. It has an ornate fascia that ends over pilasters, with gold lettering on the fascia and plinth band that reads "D Evans, Goldsmith, Silversmith, Watchmaker, Jeweller." The shop window is adorned with colonnettes and foliage spandrels, curving into a central entrance that includes a ‘tesselated doormat’ and a half-glazed door with inscribed frosted glass.
Inside the jeweller's shop, original fittings attributed to Pollards of London are preserved, including glazed cabinets and frosted glass panels. At the rear, there is a 17th-century staircase featuring turned balusters and a plain handrail.
