Description
The Castle Hotel is a simple-classical building dating from the 19th century. It stands three storeys high and features a three-window front made of scribed render with rusticated quoins and a plinth. The steeply pitched hipped slate roof has wide eaves and two cement render stacks. The second floor has 9-pane sash windows, while the first and ground floors have 12-pane sash windows. All windows are recessed and have lugged architraves and keystones. The central entrance is arched and has a small bracketed hood on a panelled architrave, leading to an 8-panel door topped with a 6-pane fanlight.
The side elevation, which adjoins No 10 Bridge Street, has two windows and features the same window treatment as the front. The front of the building is connected to No 21 Market Street only at ground level by a modern restaurant, which is not of special interest.
