Description
1-3 Argoed Cottages Three cottages forming a single symmetrical composition, comprising a 2-storey central range (No 2) with outer 1½-storey cross wings (Nos 1 and 3) which have lower eaves and entrances in the side walls. Of snecked rubble with brick quoins and dressings, and steep slate roof with 2 brick ridge stacks. Windows are original small-pane wooden casements. The central 3-window cottage (No 2) has a half-glazed panelled door with overlight, within an open lean-to porch on posts. It has 2-light windows, with transoms in the lower storey and shorter in the upper storey. The central upper window is below a brick gable. The outer cottages (Nos 1 and 3) have central doorways in the side walls with half-glazed panelled doors and overlights, and a pentice across the entire elevation on wooden posts. Above each doorway is a 2-light brick half dormer. In the gable ends, facing the road, are 3-light transomed bay windows in the lower storey and 2-light windows above. The rear is slate hung in the upper storey, has 2-light upper-storey windows in the cross wings, with additions in the lower storey.
