Description
Lower Sheephouse is a two-storey building with attics and cellars, constructed of rendered stone and topped with a hipped slate roof. The southeast front is symmetrical, featuring five bays, with the central three bays projecting forward. It has original sash windows and an original stone doorcase adorned with Doric pilasters and an open pediment, which includes a gothic fanlight and an original door that has been repaired. The pediment is supported by wooden consoles and contains a lunette window. There are a pair of original but repaired stone chimneystacks. The side elevations feature modern pedimented wooden dormers with sash windows. The rear elevation is similar to the front. To the east, there is a single-storey lower building made of stone with a slate roof, likely a contemporary service wing.
The floor plan is approximately square, with a central staircase and four rooms arranged around internal chimneys. The main building remains largely unaltered, retaining original fittings on the ground floor, including a fine pair of doorcases for the front rooms, which have eared architraves and doors with two sets of three panels. The service wing has been remodelled.
