Description
Glan Bechan is an L-shaped timber-framed house dating from the 17th century. It has two storeys and features a lobby entry, with a main range and a northern wing. The timber framing is arranged in square panels with brick nogging and tension bracing, some of which has been renewed in black and white painted brick. The roof is covered with renewed slate and has an axial brick stack. The windows consist of recently renewed wooden casements set in earlier openings.
The western gable of the main range, which faces the road, is elaborately designed with ornate moulded brackets beneath a jettied tie beam. This tie beam has a moulded underside and is carved with the date 1651. The gable also features painted quatrefoils. On the lower storey, there is a 19th-century bay window with three lights. The front elevation has a mix of window placements and includes a porch at the angle with the northern wing, which was added in the late 20th century, along with a recently added lean-to on the eastern side.
The building was not accessible during the inspection in October and November 1996.
