Description

Orchard Cottage and Brookside is a 17th-century cottage that has been divided into two separate homes. It is constructed from timber framing with whitewashed infill panels and consists of three bays, with the framing featuring three panels high and corner braces. Orchard Cottage occupies the southern end with five panels, likely including what was once the main living room, and has an external brick chimney stack. Brookside, located at the northern end, is in an added third bay and is built with similar timber framing. The northern gable of Brookside is partly clad in iron and has a weatherboarded and slated outbuilding. Both cottages have boarded doors, with Brookside featuring a small timber canopy. There are various 20th-century windows and three raised and gabled dormers. The corner posts are haunched and support trusses for a single purlin roof. Additionally, there is a small lean-to at the rear of Brookside. The property was not accessible during the inspection in September 1996.
