Footbridge at hydro-electric station (partly in Rhayader community)

The footbridge at the hydro-electric station, which is partly in the Rhayader community, is a Grade II listed structure. It connects two symmetrical power stations made of brown stone with slate roofs, situated parallel to the River Elan. Each station features a four-window block with an attached lower three-window block that is set towards the river. Both blocks have a lantern ventilator. The larger block facing the river has a central doorway with a small window above it, and two windows on each side with cruciform glazing. The rear elevation is similar but lacks a doorway. The gable end towards the dam includes a doorway with an elliptical head and a round window above it. The lower block is set forward and has a doorway at the angle, with three windows, where the central window is a two-light window flanked by three-light windows. The rear of the lower block is similar but features a central doorway instead of a window, while the gable end away from the dam has a large three-light round-headed window with a heavy transom. The interior retains operating machinery, including turbines and generators in the upstream blocks, while the downstream blocks have railed pits and wooden cases with gauges.

The footbridge itself is constructed of stone and features three broad elliptical arches, with return walls at the ends opposite the entrances to the power houses. It connects with revetment walls below the power houses, made of grey stone, with splayed downstream ends that have arched outlets.
