Description
The stables and coachhouse at Glan Hen Wye are two ranges of outbuildings built by the Maesllwch Estate around 1830 to 1840. They form an 'L'-shaped plan, enclosing a cobbled courtyard at the rear of the house. The buildings are constructed of rubble stone with sandstone dressings and feature slate roofs.
The northern range consists of four bays, highlighted by a central gabled bay that has a voussoired basket arch and double doors, along with a circular window in the pediment above. On either side, there are irregularly placed iron-paned casement windows set in timber frames, as well as boarded doors, all featuring cover strips. The openings are framed with chamfered dressed quoins and lintels, and they have stone sills.
The eastern range has a central gabled section, with two open carriage houses that both feature similar voussoired arches supported by a central column and impost semi-shafts. There is also a circular window in the pediment. Flanking this section are two large pitching eyes for the upper storage floor, along with irregular boarded doors and iron casement windows on the ground floor.
