Description
Upper Bwlch is a two-storey, three-window house built of rubble stone, with the front rebuilt in brick on the center and left side, painted white. It features a renewed slate roof and stone end stacks. The openings have segmental heads in the lower storey and are located beneath the eaves in the upper storey. The central door has been replaced, and the windows are six-pane horned sashes. Attached farm ranges are aligned to the right and left. On the left side, there is an added open-fronted cart shed with a weatherboarded loft, a rubble-stone gable end with a boarded loft door, and a 19th-century slate roof. On the right gable end of the house is a weatherboarded cow shed with a corrugated-iron roof, which includes five split boarded doors and three boarded loft doors.
Inside the house, one complete cruck truss remains, although it is partly concealed. In the gable end, part of a cruck truss is embedded within the stonework of the hall fireplace. The current layout of the house dates from the 19th century, featuring a central hall and dog-leg stair. The former 17th-century hall on the right side has two spine beams with stepped stops and a fireplace with a large timber lintel and a bread oven.
