Description
Carmel Aqueduct is a single-span structure that crosses over a road and continues on the east side with 11 spans that traverse the shallow valley of the Camlo brook. It is built of rock-faced stone with freestone dressings and quoins. The 11 main spans, each measuring 30 feet (9.2 meters), feature segmental arches with prominent keystones. Tapering piers rise to the coped parapet, designed as freestone pilasters. A moulded band runs beneath the parapet, and double pilasters are located at the ends of the aqueduct and where it spans the road, where the walls are rendered between a cambered arch. The deck is equipped with iron railings, which include gates at both ends. Additionally, the conduit is buried beneath gravel within the trough of the aqueduct.
