Description

The building is a former school, now functioning as a community centre, constructed from roughly coursed and squared stone with a slate roof and axial brick stacks. It is two storeys high and features a symmetrical design with advanced outer wings and a two-window range between them. The right-hand wing houses the former school, while the rest is known as the Old School House.

The Old School House has a doorway set in an ashlar porch on the left-hand wing, featuring a four-centred archway with a hood mould and a traceried overlight above the door. Next to the porch is a two-light casement window with a transom window, all framed in a painted stone architrave with curved upper lights. Similar casement windows are found above the porch and in the gable of the wing, which also includes a small attic window, moulded kneelers to the copings, and a finial.

The right-hand wing contains the former school entrance, which is in a segmental archway on the inner side, and features mullioned windows with round-headed lights—four on the ground floor and two above—in the gable end. An inscription plate recording the history of the school is located at the gable apex. Recent additions against the right-hand return replace earlier extensions to the school accommodation. The rear elevation facing the churchyard has a single window on each floor in the gabled wing, and a three-window range for the school house. All windows are two-light mullions set in chamfered painted stone architraves, with arched heads to the lights.
