Description

Lloran Ucha is a large, two-storey farmhouse built in an irregular "H" shape, with a lower-roofed crosswing on the left joined to the main range, but not fully integrated. The farmhouse is primarily constructed of local, roughly-dressed stone, although the front of the main range, the inward-facing flanks of the left and right crosswings, and the south-facing gable of the right crosswing are rendered. One of the four rear gables incorporates some brickwork. The roofs are slate, with tile ridges.

The older left crosswing, which now faces east, has a large lateral chimney at its front left corner (no longer associated with a surviving hearth) and a small mid-chimney built with modern brickwork. It contains three upper and one lower small-paned window with mullions and transoms, a central doorway, and three windows at the rear. The later main range features a left-end chimney and one rear lateral stone chimney constructed of modern brickwork. The right crosswing has a rear end-chimney made of stone, and a sizable lateral stone chimney. The older crosswing has three upper and one lower small-paned windows with mullions and transoms. The main range and its right crosswing feature a symmetrical five-window front with a central entrance. The main range's windows have six panes above and 20 panes below, separated by mullions and transoms. There is a six-panel front door with a rectangular overlight. Similar window arrangements are present on the two-window front of the right crosswing (including a 12-pane attic window) and the three-window east elevation.

The original hall range on the west side was found in derelict condition. The south unit within this range is separated from the cross passage by a post-and-panel partition. A very large kitchen fireplace is present. Upstairs, several rooms have wainscot panelling. The ceilings of the former kitchen in this range are supported by broadly chamfered beams, dividing the space into four sections with counterchanging joist directions; the main beams and common joists have tongue stops. The soffit of the upper floor below the cross passage also incorporates tongue-stopped chamfers.

The later main range provides a linked suite of rooms. The staircase includes a shaped handrail on turned balusters, a coil over a curtail step, bracketed treads, and a panelled dado. A hinged, panelled screen is located beneath the stairs to provide access to the older wing of the house. This later range is notable for its extensive wainscot panelling on the upper storey. The east bedroom wainscot dates to the 17th or early 18th century, while the other bedrooms retain larger 18th-century panelling with raised mouldings, some of which has been restored. The panelling incorporates fluted pilasters with caps, framing fireplaces and appearing elsewhere, with one pair displaying a late 18th or Regency Doric triglyph frieze. A folding panel separates the stairs landing from the middle bedroom. Six-panel oak or pine doors open into all the bedrooms, and some fireplaces are adorned with Delftware tiles.
