Description
The Williams-Wynn Monument in St Cedwyn's Churchyard is a Grade II listed structure designed as a preaching cross. It features a head with carved panels in gabled niches on all four sides, topped by a Crucifixion. The east side of the head displays the Williams-Wynn arms, the north side features a bishop, the west side shows family crests, and the south side has a figure in a monk's habit, possibly representing St Cedwyn. This design is similar to 15th and 16th century preaching crosses, such as the churchyard cross at Derwen.
The shaft of the monument is octagonal and slightly hollowed on each face, adorned with a diaper reticulation. There are mouldings at both the head and foot of the shaft. The die transitions from square to octagonal and rests on a large plinth. The east face of the die includes an inscription in leaded lettering that commemorates Sir Watkin.
