Description
Felin Newydd is a two-storey mill with a loft, featuring a shed at the front (east) and an attached miller's cottage on the right side. The waterwheel was originally positioned against the south wall, but it has been lost, leaving only a mark on the stonework.
The road-facing elevation includes a brick-dressed roundel at the gable apex, a small window to the left, and the main door to the right. To the right, there are two plain windows that are vertically aligned. At the rear, there is a central window on the milling storey, along with a door and hatch below. The left side has two high-level windows with mullions. Most openings do not have lintels or sills.
The garage in front features double doors with a shallow brick arch and a loft opening above. The former cottage has a door and window at the front and a door at the rear.
An underground conduit for the tailrace is still present, attached to a small arch in the bridge.
Inside, the mill has two storeys and an attic, but there are no surviving stairs or ladders. The ground level has a slate-flagged mill floor, and an aperture in the south wall is visible for the shaft of the millwheel. The roof space has a single tie and collar beam truss with two queen posts. Some sack hoisting apparatus remains, and part of the mill drive machinery is enclosed by a timber boarded screen. On the milling floor, the positions of three pairs of stones can be seen, with one pair of French burr stones still in place.
The attached miller's cottage on the north side is a one-up one-down dwelling, which was under restoration at the time of inspection. It features a large hearth and a carved timber bressummer.
