Description

Neuadd Lwyd is a two-storey, timber-framed house dating from the early to mid-17th century, likely raised in height in the late 18th or early 19th century. It was part of the Powys estate before 1880. The building features a three-unit lobby entry plan and stands on a low rubble plinth with a slate roof, complemented by brick stacks at the axial and end walls.

The exterior showcases box framing with painted brick and plaster panel infill. The west gable is constructed of brick, while the east gable is clad in corrugated steel. A rubble rear wing is also present. The front elevation displays square panelled framing on the right and close studding on the left, with continuous square panelled framing enhanced by chevron braces on the first floor. Below the eaves, there is a band of plain panels that appear to have been added to create a full two-storey height. The doorway is located towards the center, sheltered by a modern gabled timber porch, with French doors to the left and renewed casement windows at each end. The four upper windows are small-paned, iron, two-light casements. An added lean-to porch is attached to the right-hand gable. The rear elevation mirrors the front in framing style and also features the enriched chevron panelling on the upper storey, retaining small-paned iron casement windows. The rear wing includes a plain modern window set under a segmental brick arch.

Although the interior was not accessible during inspection, it is reported to have a substantial central chimney with two backed fireplaces, a staircase opposite the chimney to the lobby, and three large open bays. The interior is also said to include post and panel partitions.

Neuadd Lwyd is listed as a well-preserved and relatively unaltered example of a large and impressive lobby-entry house from the sub-medieval period.
