Description
Old Bank House, now known as Deri Dental Practice, was built between 1830 and 1840 as a single house, which later had a shop front added around 1900. It was identified as a hatter's shop on the Tithe Map apportionment and is visible in a photograph from 1914.
The building consists of a pair of houses with three storeys and cellars, featuring a three-window range. The exterior is made of yellow brickwork in Flemish bond, with a stone plinth and a cornice with modillions at the eaves. The slate roof has gable end stacks made of yellow brick. The northern dwelling has paired small-pane sash windows on the upper floors, with 16 panes on the first floor and 12 panes on the second, all topped with wedge lintels above the first-floor windows. There is a similar ground floor window to the left of the entrance, which features a 9-panelled door (though three panels are very small) with an overlight in an architrave with panelled reveals. The entablature extends across the shop front of Deri Dental Practice, which has paired windows divided into six panes each, with panelled aprons and an entrance to the right (the door has been replaced with a modern version). Above, there is a small-paned tripartite sash window with a wedge lintel, and on the second storey, there is a 12-pane sash window, along with two 12-pane sash windows with stressed quoins in the rendered gable end.
The interior was not accessible during the inspection in September 1995. The building is listed as a well-preserved house with a later shop front, situated in a prominent location that contributes to the townscape and has group value.
