Description

Glenfern is a pair of houses built around 1850. They are three storeys tall with cellars and each has a single window range. The north house features a slate roof and red brickwork in Flemish bond, which has been recently repointed and is built on a stone plinth. The south house has a corrugated asbestos roof, and its front elevation is covered with modern roughcast render and paint, although the stone plinth is still visible.

On the front elevation, the second storey has two windows under the eaves: a 12-pane sash window on the south side and a modern single light window on the north side. The first storey has two 16-pane sash windows under flat arches with tumbled brickwork, which are painted white on the north house but rendered over on the south house. The ground floor also has two 16-pane sash windows, similar to those on the first floor. The door frames are adorned with plain pilasters and flat door heads supported by heavy, decorated consoles, with panelled reveals. The south house features a six-panelled door with a four-pane overlight, while the north house has a modern panelled half-lit door with a four-pane overlight. There are two stone steps leading up to the door of Brynllys, and hatches provide access to the cellars.

The interior was not accessible during the inspection. Glenfern is listed for its contribution to the townscape and group value, as well as for retaining much of its late Georgian character.
