Description
The Wynnstay Arms Hotel is a two-storey building with attics and a cellar, located on High Street. Its main elevation features a three-window range with an east gable stack. There is an advanced two-storey wing to the west, which has both an axial and a south gable stack, and a five-window return elevation facing Watergate Street. The main range includes a gabled wing at the rear, which extends into what was once a yard. The exterior of the main range is finished with lined-out render over brick, while the western range facing Watergate Street is constructed of brick laid in Flemish bond and whitened, with slate roofs throughout.
The window openings are generally narrow with under square heads and painted cills, although they are mostly boarded up, leaving little visible detail aside from the dormer windows, which are four-pane sashes. A two-storey canted bay window has been added to the gable facing Broad Street. The west side of this range features five windows under segmental brick arches. The doors that are visible are modern. In the angle between the two principal ranges, there is a small two-storey quadrant-shaped structure with a flat roof and one blocked window opening. The east wall of the gable range displays a motif of the Cycling Tourist Club dating from around 1920, along with a line of iron brackets and a blocked opening with an arched head.
At the time of inspection, the building was not accessible, boarded up, and in poor condition. It is reported to contain a late 17th-century staircase.
